Now that you've learned the basics, every spread of your altered book can become a beautiful work of art! Guided by elements and principles of design, plan and complete a multi page spread. Tell a story; add color, texture and movement with multiple collage techniques. This session will add niches, 3-D pop ups, functioning pockets with pull out tags, hand sewn pages, and book closure techniques to your altered art repertoire. We will even look at that very scary idea of designing a spread with your own sketches, hand drawn design and color.
A prepared book will be needed for this class: thinned pages, pre-folded spreads and multiple glued pages.

PIETRA DURA- Renaissance Stone Inlays in Polymer Clays
This fabulous technique comes from 15th C Renaissance Italy. Used decoratively for extremely expensive furniture and interiors (think the Vatican, the Medici, the Borgias except nicer people). Inlays of semi-precious stones are pieced into miniature paintings, using the inherent shadings of beautiful stones to mimic shifting colors and shadows of natural forms, architecture, landscapes and the like. Very compelling and eye-catching work.
She will be teaching this class in France at the end of September, as a week-long retreat. If you want the longer version, go there. For the shorter, more immediate version, come here!
Cost: $260, includes some materials.
